Staying at the BJJ Hostel with strangers may seem strange at first but it is exactly what makes staying at the BJJ Hostel so special! Meeting like-minded jiu jitsu athletes from all around the world who want to explore the city, train together, and get to know one another makes for a special environment inside the hostel you just can’t find anywhere else! Check out Mark and George’s experience at the BJJ Hostel and hear what they have to say about their time here:
Josh was our first guest at the BJJ Hostel and stayed with us for over 6 months! This week he decided to head back to his home in Denver, Colorado and he will be greatly missed! We want to thank him for sharing his positive energy with us at the hostel and for sharing some great memories with us here in San Diego. We hope to have you back out here soon!
With people from all around the world, it’s always a good time to explore some new ethnic food and drinks with our other guests. Check out Ollie from Australia and Yoon Sung from South Korea as they try out an experimental tea that may (or may not) be an Australian recipe for delicious tea.
Thanks to all of our guests who have stayed at the BJJ Hostel during our first half year of being open! We had guests from all around the world including Germany, Korea, Australia, Canada, US, United Kingdom, Ireland, Romania, and Japan.
Here’s a quick summary of some of the reviews they’ve left us on our Facebook page:
Josh Mancuso from Lousiana: “Great accommodations, location, and hospitality. Dave is a very welcoming host who loves and is very involved in the local jiu jitsu scene. I highly recommend everyone to come out to SD and stay at the BJJ Hostel. I’ll be back for sure.”
Sascha Scharma from Germany: “Tolles Hostel zu gutem Preis. Tolle Anbindung an BJJ-Schulen und ein wirklich fürsorglicher Hostel-Leiter. Kann es jedem BJJler nur empfehlen.”
George Charalambopoulos from Oregon: “best experience in my life. thanks to Adam and Josh for the great time.”
Linden Clarke from Ontario, Canada: “This is the perfect place to stay! The location is amazing. Close to the beach and all the academies. The house has everything you need for training. There is a washing machine, dryer, soap, and tons of room to hang your gi. The living room is comfortable and has lots of room with a big screen tv for relaxing after training. The owner of the house (Dave) is awesome and will help you out with anything you need while you are staying there. When I stayed there I met a bunch of great guys and Dave took me to the University of Jiu Jitsu with him to train. If you are going to the area to train this is 100% the place you should stay. Thanks again for everything Dave!! I will for sure be back :)”
Hannah Robinow from Kansas: “Can’t say enough good things about this place! I would definitely recommend this to all of my friends– this is a great place to call a home-away from home while checking out the best of the surfing, training, and Açai bowls SoCal has to offer.”
Roxana Safipour from Colorado: “A friend and I stayed here for four nights while training at Gracie South Bay and the University. This is the perfect place to stay while training, with free laundry and access to the kitchen for cooking meals. It’s clean and quiet. Dave is a great host; he gave us lots of tips on things to do and places to eat in the neighborhood. Way better than staying at a hotel! If you are coming to San Diego to train you should definitely stay here.”
Ollie Price from London: “This place was amazing! Perfect location near the beach and close to all the best Jiu Jitsu academies in SoCal. Dave who runs the place is a legend! Cannot recommend this place enough go book book your stay!”
Terren Casson from New York: “Greatest place to stay to dive right in the San Diego’s amazing BJJ Community”
Mindy Ashby from Kansas: “Perfect location, accommodations, and hospitality! I will definitely go back. There should be locations like this throughout the states that can live up to the comfortability and hospitality of Dave’s hostel.”
Josh Mendoza from Colorado: “I moved to San Diego from Denver to pursue my career and my love for Jiu Jitsu. Since the day I landed at the BJJ Hostel I knew this was the best place I could be. With my gym being 15 minutes away, 5 minutes from the beach, a badass house manager in Dave Kim who I now consider a good friend, this place is everything I could ask for and more. Met some amazing people who share a passion for Jiu Jitsu and I see this place continuing to bring in some cool people from around the globe. Definitely the only place to stay in SD if youre coming to compete, train and vacation!!”
